Announcement from Texas Tech Public Media

We all know it’s a rough time to be in media. Across the board, subscriptions are lower than they once were, and funding follows suit. To work through these kinds of challenges, media outlets have to constantly reassess what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. It’s the only way to keep going so we can meet our community’s needs.

Texas Tech Public Media has long been a source of creative storytelling, education and community engagement. It has given this community a platform, amplifying many voices and building meaningful relationships.

We don’t want any of that to change.

However, we have to be honest about the challenges we’re facing. As we look to the future, we see a significant reduction in revenue, including grant funding. That means we have to change, too. In order to continue providing this community platform, Texas Tech Public Media is undergoing a comprehensive restructuring.

In the coming months, you can expect to see changes in programming and partnerships as we streamline our operations, focusing on optimizing efficiency. We know change is hard, but our commitment to serve West Texas is stronger than ever. And if there’s one thing we know about West Texans, it’s that we thrive when the stakes are high.

Today, we’re beginning a journey to reimagine our public media station. We will reevaluate our programming and build a more prominent presence across West Texas through strategic investments in the Lubbock, San Angelo and El Paso markets.

There’s a lot to look forward to.

Thank you for valuing the contributions of Texas Tech Public Media. Your support means more than you know.
